Overview

Vykin Corporation is currently looking for an experienced TS/SCI Full Scope Polygraph cleared Senior Network Engineer to join our team in Chantilly, VA.  We are a small defense contracting company that is veteran owned servicing the US Department of Defense.  The successful candidate will receive competitive wages, health plans and the opportunity to join a small company that still believes every employee counts.

Responsibilities

The Senior Network Engineer position is in direct support of Enterprise Operation and Maintenance (O&M) team responsible for a very large and complex network infrastructure.  The position requires a wide and deep level of up-to-date knowledge in network engineering, with the ability to complete very difficult and complex assignments.

  • Expected to bridge the gap between Engineering and O&M, transitioning Tier 2 support for new systems from Engineering to O&M.
  • Develop, refine and document repeatable processes, as well as formulate a plan for bringing a large scale network into security compliance.
  • Work with other Network Engineers to design, install, configure, and support an organization's complex wide area network (WAN) and maintain network hardware and software.
  • Monitor the network at a service assurance level to ensure network availability to all system users and perform necessary maintenance to support network availability to include:
    • maintaining network hardware and software;
    • performing necessary maintenance to support network availability;
    • performing installations, upgrades, and supporting problem resolution for mainly Linux based operating systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or similar field OR the equivlanet years of demonstrated experience
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of Network Engineering experience in a distributed network environment with increasingly complex responsibilities during the time period:
    • Minimum of one (1) year of Juniper experience;
    • Minimum of two (2) years of experience establishing and troubleshooting VPNs;
    • Minimum of two (2) years of VMWare experience; demonstrated experience working with IPv4 networks;
    • Minimum of two (2) years of experience coding in scripting languages (Bash, Python, and/or PowerShell);
    • Experience with networking protocols and technologies such as TCP/IP, OSPF, QoS, VPN, IPSLA, Trunking, Spanning tree, Layer 3 switching, etc.; 
  • CCNA or CCNP certification
  • An active in-scope TS/SCI with Full Scope polygraph

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Strong understanding of virtual routing technologies;
  • Knowledge and interest in cutting edge network technologies;
  • Demonstrated experience with the operation of Cisco network switches, routers, IOS commands, Juniper firewalls, etc.
  • Thorough working knowledge of Wide Area Network (WAN) and Local Area Network (LAN) concepts;
  • Knowledge and experience with policy-based routing; 
  • Ability to understand, recommend, design, and implement LAN/WAN functionality such as switches, routers, virtual routers, gateways, firewalls, load balancers, proxy servers, etc.
  • Ability to lead technical teams to success. 

Desired skills:

  • Experience with Cisco Nexus 5000/2000 series hardware;
  • Experience with Juniper SRX series hardware;
  • Experience with IPS/IDS systems to include network impacts;
  • JNCIA or JNCIP certification. 

 

Working Conditions

The work is typically performed in an office environment, which requires normal safety precautions; work may require some physical effort in the handling of light materials, boxes or equipment.  The work location is a government facility located on a military installation in Chantilly, VA supporting a DoD customer.  The successful applicant will be working for and reporting directly to the prime contractor or the DoD customer as appropriate.
