Vykin Corporation is currently looking for an experienced TS/SCI cleared Firewall Network Administrator position to join our team in Sterling, VA.  We are a small defense contracting company that is veteran owned servicing the US Department of Defense.  The successful candidate will receive a competitive wages, health plans and the opportunity to join a small company that still believes every employee counts.


The role of the Firewall Network Administrator will support all operational aspects of firewalls within the production environment, including event management, system upgrades, incident management, day-to-day operations and sustainment of the enterprise. The role will also be responsible for assisting in developing patches and executing the implementation of those patches into the production environment. The Principal Firewall Network Administrator will work hand-in-hand with System Administrators, Test/Lab Engineers, and Design Engineers in all things respective of the firewall environment. This position will report to the O&S Support Manager.


  • Tier II – III O&S responsibility of the firewalls in the Production Environment including recovery documentation for designated systems, and establishing and maintaining firewall configurations.
  • Provide leadership, expertise, and strategic guidance on critical operations that span multiple systems and groups.
  • Serve as the escalation point for all firewall issues related to the Desktop Initiative Solution.
  • Work with the Test, Engineer, and Transition teams on the development of patches that will be applied to the Production system.
  • Provide expertise in updating/maintenance of the firewall and supporting networks and servers.
  • Monitor, evaluate and remediate any health concerns of firewalls within the production environment.
  • Provide On-the-Job training to staff, as needed.
  • Create, document, and implement department process and procedures associated with administration of the
  • firewall solution.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and procedures including DoD STIG requirements.
  • Ensure problems and error conditions are promptly and appropriately addressed.
  • Flexibility is a must and after hours on-call may occur.




  • Bachelor’s Degree (or the equivalent years of relevant experience) and a minimum of eight (8) years of experience.
  • An Active in-scope TS/SCI clearance with CI polygraph (or the ability to obtain a CI polygraph)
  • DOD 8570.01 compliant at IAT level II or higher e.g. CompTIA Security+ CE (or the ability to obtain the certificate within 90 days of hire)

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience:

  • A combination of a minimum of ten (10) years  of  O&S  administration experience in the following areas:
    OSI Layer 2/3
    SonicWALL, PIX, ASA, or Firewall Services Modules (FWSM)
    Reverse-Proxy Firewalls
    Virtual Private Networks (VPN)
    Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC)
    Microsoft Server (2012 R2 experience preferred)
    Virtual / Cloud Servers and Services
    Experience configuring and troubleshooting firewalls
    IPsec and SSL VPN protocol knowledge and implementation
    MPLS and BGP experience
  • Technical documentation skills
  • In-depth knowledge of LAN/WAN design, installation and networking (load balancing, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS)



  • PowerShell Scripting
  • VDI  (virtualized desktop infrastructure) Environment
  • Knowledge of Dell Networking Appliances
  • Experience in a large, geographically dispersed environment

Working Conditions

The work is typically performed in an office environment, which requires normal safety precautions; work may require some physical effort in the handling of light materials, boxes or equipment. The work location is a government facility located on a military installation in Sterling, VA supporting a DoD customer.  The successful applicant will be working for and reporting directly to the prime contractor or the DoD customer as appropriate.
