Overview

Vykin Corporation is currently looking for an experienced Top Secret SCI eligible Senior Network Engineer to join our team  in Honolulu, Hawaii.  We are a small defense contracting company that is veteran owned servicing the US Department of Defense.  The successful candidate will receive competitive wages, health plans and the opportunity to join a small company that still believes every employee counts.

Responsibilities

Analyzes local and wide area network systems, including planning, designing, evaluating, selecting, and upgrading operating systems and protocol suites and configuring communication media with concentrators, bridges, and other devices. Resolves interoperability problems to obtain operations across all platforms including email, file transfer, multimedia, teleconferencing, and the like; configures systems to user requirements. Supports the acquisition of hardware and software as well as subcontractor services as needed; performs various tests and documents results. Administers and maintains local and wide area networks; provides technical support and troubleshooting to users. Plans network layout design; may administer network security.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  • Manages the usage and performance of voice, video and/or data communications networks.
  • Maintains network security and ensures compliance with security policies and procedures.
  • Evaluates hardware and software, including peripheral, output, and related equipment.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of network-related procedures and standards.
  • Participates in and may lead aspects of major network installations and upgrades.
  • Interfaces with vendors to ensure appropriate resolution during network outages or periods of reduced performance.
  • Develops and implements testing strategies and document results.
  • Provides advice and training to end-users.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves complex problems.
  • May provide work leadership to less-experienced network personnel.
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant hardware and software applications as assigned.
  • Participates in special projects as required.
  • Manages the functionality and efficiency of a group of computers running on one or more operating systems.
  • Maintains the integrity and security of network devices and systems.
  • Sets up administrator and service accounts.
  • Maintains system documentation.
  • Interacts with users and evaluates vendor products.
  • Patches and updates network device operating systems to Department of Defense guidelines.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves issues with Cisco IOS and NxOS based network devices.
  • Develops scripts and tools to automate and improve user support activities.
  • Monitors overall network health and troubleshoots reported events. 

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (or the equivalent years of experience) AND a minimum of six (6) years of related network administration and analysis experience
  • An Active in-scope Top Secret clearance with SCI eligablity
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g. CompTia Security+CE or Cisco Security CCNA)

Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with Ethernet and IP networking fundamentals and extensive experience in the application of IP protocols.
  • Experience knowledge of and experience with major Internet routing protocols, network hardware and packet forwarding architectures.
  • Experience working with large-scale networks.

 

 

Preferred:

    • CCNP
    • Significant past experience with many of the following: Ethernet, 802.2/3, 802.1d, IP, TCP, BGP, OSPF, HSRP/VRRP/GLBP, PIM, IGMP, MSDP, MPLS, LDP, DNS, HTTP, SSL, Netflow

    • Experience with Cisco Nexus NxOS and technologies.

    • Experience with data encryption hardware such as Taclanes, ViaSat KG-250s and key concepts like VPN and IPSEC.

    • Software development/programming & scripting skills

    • Experience with Brocade hardware

Working Conditions

The work is typically performed in an office environment, which requires normal safety precautions; work may require some physical effort in the handling of light materials, boxes or equipment.  The work location is a government facility located on a military installation in Oahu, HI supporting a DoD customer.  The successful applicant will be working for and reporting directly to the prime contractor or the DoD customer as appropriate.
